General Statement
The prevention of all accidents involving personal injury or property damage is essential to the efficient operations of The North British Distillery Company Limited (hereinafter referred to as "the Company"). The Company is, therefore, committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of all employees whilst at work. The commitment also extends to visitors, contractors and members of the general public where appropriate.
The Company will comply with its statutory obligations in health, safety and welfare. It will ensure that appropriate safety training and instruction is provided and that accident prevention is included in all relevant training programmes.
The Managing Director has overall responsibility for the successful implementation of this Policy and for effective safety communications throughout the organisation. The day to day application is, successively, the responsibility of the Company's Directors, Managers and Supervisors.
In this Policy, the term "safety" is defined to mean:--
the prevention of all injuries and occupational illnesses-
the promotion of good occupational health and hygiene practices-
The control of all situations likely to cause damage to people, property or equipment.
It is the responsibility of all employees to take reasonable care for their own safety and the safety of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions and also to co-operate with the Company in its arrangements to perform or comply with the statutory safety obligations.
The Company attaches the greatest importance to consultation with employees on all health and safety matters. It is recognised that consultation commits the company to full and frank disclosures of all relevant information on health and safety issues in its possession to any employee or his/her representatives.
The Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Regulations 1999 have particular relevance to all Company activities, requiring a Major Accident Prevention Policy (MAPP) and a Safety Management System.
Arrangements and procedures set out in the Company Health, Safety and Environmental Manual form part of the Company's Safety Management System.
They may, subject to consultation and agreement, be amended, deleted or added to at any time where such changes are seen to be necessary. The Company's health and safety policy will be monitored to assess its relevance to present health and safety needs and the extent to which it is being applied at the workplace.
