Distillation
Grain spirit is distilled using a 'Coffey' Still.
- The Coffey Still was invented by Robert Stein, a Clackmananshire distiller. However, the design was patented in 1831 by a Dublin excise man named Aeneas Coffey, hence the name.
- The NB's three Coffey stills are identical, and each is fed continuously with between 35,000 - 40,000 litres of wash per hour, producing spirit at strength of 94.5% alcohol.
